Gómez has both German and Spanish nationality, but played for all German youth national teams from age 17. He made his debut for the German national team against Switzerland on 7 February 2007. Germany won the match 3–1, with Gómez scoring Germany's second goal.

Gómez gained his second cap for Germany, coming on as a substitute for Kevin Kurányi in a Euro 2008 qualifier against San Marino, scoring two goals that contributed to a final 6–0 victory.

After Gómez impressed in pre-tournament friendlies, Joachim Löw called him up to the German squad for Euro 2008. Löw broke up the strike partnership of Lukas Podolski and Miroslav Klose with Podolski moving out to the left wing at the expense of talismanic midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger and Gómez partnering Klose up front. Unfortunately, he was not able to reproduce his club form and missed several clear-cut chances including a crucial one in the last group match against Austria. Germany eventually won courtesy of a Michael Ballack free kick to seal a place in the knock-out stages but Löw dropped him to the bench and reverted back to the Podolski-Klose partnership. He was an unused substitute in the quarterfinal and semifinal and later came off the bench in the final of Euro 2008 for Miroslav Klose but could not prevent Germany from losing 1–0 to Spain. In a friendly match against the United Arab Emirates played on 2 June 2009, Gómez netted four goals, ending his 15-game goal drought for the national team, in Germany's 7–2 thrashing.

Gómez was named as one of the six strikers in Joachim Löw's 23-man squad for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. He featured in four out of seven German matches at the World Cup, all from the substitutes bench against Australia, replacing Mesut Özil in the 73rd minute, Serbia, coming on for left back Holger Badstuber in the 77th minute, England, coming on for fellow forward Miroslav Klose in the 72nd minute and Spain by replacing Real Madrid's defensive midfielder Sami Khedira on 80 minutes.

Although being the second choice behind Miroslav Klose as center-foward during Germany's qualification for Euro 2012, Gómez played regularly and contributed goals against every opponent of that campaign: Kazakhstan, Austria, Azerbaijan, Turkey and Belgium. This includes two goals against Austria in Germany's 1–2 away win in the Ernst-Happel-Stadion, netting into the very same goal in which despite good goalscoring opportunities he couldn't score three years earlier during Euro 2008, a performance for which he was criticized by the German media and fans of the Mannschaft. Observers saw him overcome a little trauma and in a spontaneous gesture of relief, he kissed the goalpost after he scored the first goal

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- According to a person familiar with the agreement, the Tennessee Titans have reached a deal with quarterback Matt Hasselbeck.

The Titans were looking for a veteran quarterback to help mentor rookie Jake Locker, the No. 8 overall draft pick. Veteran Kerry Collins announced July 7 he was retiring, and Tennessee plans to trade or release Vince Young likely before training camp on Friday.

The 35-year-old Hasselbeck has spent the past 10 years with Seattle, but the Seahawks reached a deal Tuesday with quarterback Tavaris Jackson.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the deal had not been announced. ESPN.com first reported the agreement, which was reached Wednesday morning.

The Estadio Santiago Bernabéu (Spanish pronunciation: [esˈtaðjo sanˈtjaɣo βernaˈβeu]) is an all-seater football stadium in Madrid, Spain. It was inaugurated on 14 December 1947 and is owned by Real Madrid C.F. It has a current capacity of 80,354 spectators.
El Bernabéu, re-named in honour of their former chairman Santiago Bernabéu Yeste, is one of the world's most famous and prestigious football venues. It has hosted the European Cup final on three occasions: in 1957, 1969 and 1980, and the UEFA Champions League Final in 2010.[3] The finals for the 1964 European Nations' Cup and the 1982 World Cup have also been held at the Bernabéu.

When Florentino Pérez became the president of Real Madrid, he launched a "master plan" with one goal: to improve the comfort of the Santiago Bernabéu and the quality of its facilities, and maximise revenue for the stadium.
Pérez invested €127 million in five years (2001–2006) by adding an expansion to the east side of the stadium, as well adding a new façade on Father Damien street, new costumes, new boxes and VIP areas, a new stage in honour of the east side, a new press area (also located on the east side), a new audio system, new bars, integration of heating in the stands, panoramic lifts, new restaurants, escalators in the tower access, and implementation of the multipurpose building in Father Damien street.
Following the enlargement of the lateral east side and the creation of new galleries, the capacity of the Santiago Bernabéu is 80,354, all seated.

In 2007, the 1,000th game was played at the Santiago Bernabéu. In addition, the latest revision of UEFA on 27 October 2007, on the occasion of Champions League match against Olympiacos, served as a final step to give the Santiago Bernabéu elite stadium status on 14 November 2007, a month before the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the inauguration of the stadium. UEFA announced that the club will officially rename the Elite stadium.

Pérez proposed construction of a retractable roof before he resigned in 2005. In 2009, following the re-election of Pérez as the club president, it was announced that the roof construction was looking unlikely due to the financial situation of the club. However, according to Spanish sports newspaper Marca, Pérez wants to restructure Santiago Bernabéu. According to the newspaper, the architect in charge will be chosen from among a shortlist of Spanish architects Santiago Calatrava and Pritzker Prize-winner Rafael Moneo, and Chinese-American Ieoh Ming Pei, also a Pritzker winner

Personal life

Oudin is of French descent and has a twin sister, Katherine, and a younger sister, Christina. She was home schooled from seventh grade on so that she could have more time for tennis practice, but admits envying her twin sister's experiences at a regular school. She says her idol is Justine Henin because "she proved you don't have to be tall to win things." Her grandmother inspired her and her sister to play tennis when she gave them racquets and lessons when they were young

Playing style

Oudin is a defensive counterpuncher. She uses her speed and footwork to get balls back from the other side of the court. Her best shot is her forehand which she can really hit with power. Her slice backhand is basically defensive but accurate. Oudin can get any ball near the service line or close to the baseline which gives her more speed and power on her shots. Good dropshot and clean volley are useful assets in her game as well.

Fed Cup

Oudin played singles in the United States' Fed Cup tie against Argentina in February 2009, losing her first match against Gisela Dulko but winning the second match against Betina Jozami in three sets. In November 2009, Oudin won both of her matches (against Flavia Pennetta and Francesca Schiavone) in the championship round of the 2009 Fed Cup.

In the 2010 Fed Cup, Oudin led the USA to a 4–1 victory over France by defeating Pauline Parmentier and Julie Coin. Against Russia, Oudin then defeated Alla Kudryavtseva in her first singles match while losing to Elena Dementieva in her second match. Her team still advanced to the final in San Diego. Contrary to expectations, lower ranked Coco Vandeweghe was chosen over Oudin for the first singles match against Francesca Schiavone. After the US team lost both matches on the first day, Oudin replaced Bethanie Mattek-Sands for the third singles match against Schiavone and won 6–3, 6–1. This kept her team in contention but proved futile since Vandeweghe lost the next match against Flavia Pennetta. In the 2011 Fed Cup World Group tie against Belgium, Oudin lost both her singles matches against Kim Clijsters and Yanina Wickmayer. In April, she equally lost her two matches in the 2011 Fed Cup World Group Play-offs where the US dropped out of the World Group for the first time since its formation in 1995.

Mario Gómez García (German pronunciation: [ˈmaːʁioː ˈɡɔmɛs]; Spanish pronunciation: [ˈmaɾio ˈɣomeθ]; born 10 July 1985 in Riedlingen) is a German footballer who plays as a striker for Bayern Munich in the German Bundesliga. Gómez joined Bayern after six years in Stuttgart. The fee was a record for a player transferred in the Bundesliga, estimated to be 30–35 million euro. When Stuttgart became champions in 2006–07 and Gómez contributed 14 goals and was elected German footballer of the year.

Personal life

Gómez was brought up in Unlingen, an Upper Swabian village and is of German-Spanish descent (his father is a Spaniard from Granada and his mother is German). He has both nationalities but decided to play for the German national team at the age of 17. His first appearance for the team was in February 2007 against Switzerland and he has been called up regularly since.

Club career

VfB Stuttgart

In 2004, Gómez played 10 minutes for VfB Stuttgart in the Champions League in a game against Chelsea on 9 March and made his debut in the Bundesliga on 8 May.

In the 2004–05 season, playing for the Regionalliga side, he scored 15 times in 24 games and was to be capped eight times in the first team.

In the 2005–06 season, Gómez joined the first team permanently. He played 30 times in the Bundesliga, scoring six times at this level, his first goal coming on 17 September 2005. The striker also played five times in the UEFA Cup, scoring twice, and in three times in the DFB-Pokal.

In the 2006–07 season the youngster established himself as one of the top scorers in the Bundesliga. However, he broke his hand on 10 March 2007 and suffered a torn ligament in his left knee. He made his comeback on 12 May 2007, and immediately scored after coming on from the bench. In that game, VfB Stuttgart defeated VfL Bochum (3–2) and went two points clear heading into the Bundesliga's final weekend where they won at home against Energie Cottbus, thus becoming German champions. Furthermore, VfB Stuttgart also reached final of the DFB-Pokal, where Gómez participated, but VfB Stuttgart lost to 1. FC Nuremberg. After the season, he was named German Footballer of the Year for 2007. Gómez extended his contract at VfB Stuttgart until 2012.

While, in the 2007–08 season, the rest of his team struggled to keep performing at their 2006–07 season standards, Gómez remained at an astonishingly high level, scoring 19 goals in 25 appearances, second in the Bundesliga's Top Scorer list, just behind Bayern Munich's Luca Toni who scored 25 times. In the cup he actually scored the most goals of players.[1] Because of his recent development, many big clubs have been interested in the 23 year old forward. Gómez has recently gained the nickname "Mr. Zuverlässig" ("Mr. Reliable"), as seen in his second of three goals against Bundesliga rival Werder Bremen (final score 6–3), where he managed to net in a virtually unreachable pass by teammate Yıldıray Baştürk. In the 2008–09 season Gomez hit four goals to inspire VfB Stuttgart to a 4–1 victory over Bundesliga leaders VfL Wolfsburg.

Bayern Munich

On 26 May 2009, Gómez was eventually transferred to Bayern Munich on a Bundesliga record transfer fee, signing a four-year contract. The amount of the transfer fee varies from 30–35 million euro, depending on different sources.[2][3][4]

After an erratic first season at Bayern, Gomez established himself as a starter during the 2010–11 season (to an extent at the expense of Miroslav Klose and due to the injury sustained by Ivica Olić) and is currently at the top of the scoring charts in the Bundesliga with 22 goals to his name. Gómez also netted eight times in the Champions League and is among this season's top scorers, although Bayern were eliminated in the round-of-sixteen by Inter Milan.

National team

Gómez has both German and Spanish nationality, but played for all German youth national teams from age 17. He made his debut for the German national team against Switzerland on 7 February 2007. Germany won the match 3–1, with Gómez scoring Germany's second goal.

Gómez gained his second cap for Germany, coming on as a substitute for Kevin Kurányi in a Euro 2008 qualifier against San Marino, scoring two goals that contributed to a final 6–0 victory.

After Gómez impressed in pre-tournament friendlies, Joachim Löw called him up to the German squad for Euro 2008. Löw broke up the strike partnership of Lukas Podolski and Miroslav Klose with Podolski moving out to the left wing at the expense of talismanic midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger and Gómez partnering Klose up front. Unfortunately, he was not able to reproduce his club form and missed several clear-cut chances including a crucial one in the last group match against Austria. Germany eventually won courtesy of a Michael Ballack free kick to seal a place in the knock-out stages but Löw dropped him to the bench and reverted back to the Podolski-Klose partnership. He was an unused substitute in the quarterfinal and semifinal and later came off the bench in the final of Euro 2008 for Miroslav Klose but could not prevent Germany from losing 1–0 to Spain. In a friendly match against the United Arab Emirates played on 2 June 2009, Gómez netted four goals, ending his 15-game goal drought for the national team,[5] in Germany's 7–2 thrashing. Gómez was named as one of the six strikers in Joachim Löw's 23-man squad for theWorld Cup in South Africa. He featured in four out of seven German matches at the 2010 World Cup, all from the substitutes bench against Australia, replacing Mesut Özil in the 73rd minute, Serbia, coming on for left back Holger Badstuber in the 77th minute, England, coming on for fellow forward Miroslav Klose in the 72nd minute and Spain by replacing Stuttgart defensive midfielder Sami Khedira on 80 minutes.

Vesnina's first tournament of the year is the 2010 ASB Classic where she is seeded #6. In the first round she beat Alberta Brianti 6–1 6–4. In the second round she was defeated by Alizé Cornet 6–1 6–1.

Her next tournament was the Medibank International Sydney. In the first round she faced #7 Vera Zvonareva but at 3–3 Zvonareva retired due to a right ankle injury. In the second round she was defeated by Vera Dushevina 6–3 6–4.

Vesnina was seeded #28 at the Australian Open but was defeated in the first round by Tathiana Garbin 7–6 6–4. In the doubles she partnered with Zheng Jie of China where they were seeded #9. In the first round they beat Alizé Cornet and Sharon Fichman 7–5 6–3 and in the second round they won in a walkover. In the third round they lost to the #8 seeds Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Yan Zi 6–4 6–4. Vesnina also entered mixed doubles with Andy Ram and were the #8 seeds. In the first round they defeated Alicia Molik and Matthew Ebden 6–0 6–3. In the second round they beat Anna-Lena Grönefeld and Christopher Kas but then fell to the top seeded Cara Black and Leander Paes in the quarterfinals.

At the Wimbledon Championships Vesnina made it to her second grand slam final in doubles while partnering Vera Zvonareva. The pair scored some impressive wins over the top seeded Williams Sisters in the Quarter finals (which ended the Americans 27 match winning streak in grand slam doubles matches) and over 4th seeds Gisela Dulko and Flavia Pennetta in the Semifinals. In the final they fell to fellow unseeded pairing Yaroslava Shvedova and Vania King 7–6 6–2.

She was able to break her 7 losing streak at the 2010 İstanbul Cup defeating Bojana Jovanovski, Stefanie Vögele and Anastasia Rodionova in straight sets. She then upset 6th seed Andrea Petkovic 1–6, 6–0, 7–6(2) recoring from a break down to reach the finals. In the final where she faced fellow Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Vesnina went down 5–7 7–5 6–4 despite having led 4–0 in the second set and been a break up at 3–1 in the final set.

Vesnina then played in the 2010 Western & Southern Financial Group Women's Open, where in the second round she defeated French Open champion Francesca Schiavone 6–4, 6–4. She lost to Ana Ivanović in the 3rd round 0–6, 3–6. She then needed to qualify in the 2010 Pilot Pen Tennis, which she did but lost to Maria Kirilenko 6–1 3–6 6–1 in the first round. She also fell to 5th seed Samantha Stosur in the first round of the US Open 3–6 7–6(2) 6–1.

Following the US Open Vesnina next participated in the 2010 Tashkent Open. She beat Lesya Tsurenko and Olga Savchuk to reach the quarterfinals where she then demolished Darya Kustova 6–0, 6–1. In the semifinals she defeated Monica Niculescu 6–3, 3–6, 6–4 despite being down 3–0 in the third set, Elena won 6 of the last 7 games. She lost to Alla Kudryavtseva 6–4, 6–4 in the final.

Elena scored the biggest win of her career two weeks later in the China Open by defeating 12th seed Maria Sharapova 7–6(3) 6–2. She lost to Timea Bacsinszky in the next round.

2011

Elena began her year at the 2011 ASB Classic where she was seeded 7th. In her first match of the year she easily outclassed Marina Erakovic 6–2 6–2. However in the next round Vesnina faced Simona Halep, she started well leading 6–2 4–1 however she then lost the second set and retired at 6–2 4–6 0–4 due to dizziness.

Elena then went to 2011 Moorilla Hobart International where she defeated Arantxa Parra Santonja 6-2, 6-1 in the first round. She then lost to top seed Marion Bartoli 6-4, 6-1.

In the first round of the 2011 Australian Open Vesnina lost to Frenchwoman Virginie Razzano in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 3-6. She then also fell in the first rounds of 2011 Open GDF Suez, 2011 Dubai Tennis Championships, and 2011 BNP Paribas Open and the qualifying round in 2011 Qatar Ladies Open. At the 2011 Sony Ericsson Open she defeated higher ranked players Gisela Dulko 6-1, 6-3 and 23rd seed Yanina Wickmayer 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 but oddly lost to a lower ranked Anabel Medina Garrigues 6-3, 6-4 in the third round. At the 2011 Family Circle Cup, Vesnina defeated Rebecca Marino in the first round and then knocked out 4 consecutive seeds no. 14 seed Bethanie Mattek-Sands, 2nd seed and defending champion Samantha Stosur, 12th seed Julia Görges and 11th seed Chinese Peng Shuai. Vesnina became runner-up at the 2011 Family Circle Cup by losing to the number one seed, Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark in straight sets.

In doubles, Vesnina along with Indian Sania Mirza won the finals of the BNP Paribas Open by defeating Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Meghann Shaughnessy 6-0, 7-5. Then the pair won their second doubles title of the year at the Family Circle Cup by defeating Mattek-Sands and Shaughnessy again, 6-4, 6-4.

Parachuting, also known as skydiving, is the action of exiting an aircraft or jumping off of a tall structure, and returning to earth with the aid of a parachute. It may or may not involve a certain amount of free-fall, a time during which the parachute has not been deployed and the body gradually accelerates to terminal velocity.

The history of skydiving starts with Andre-Jacques Garnerin who made successful parachute jumps from a hot-air balloon in 1797. The military developed parachuting technology as a way to save aircrews from emergencies aboard balloons and aircraft in flight, later as a way of delivering soldiers to the battlefield. Early competitions date back to the 1930s, and it became an international sport in 1952.

Parachuting is performed as a recreational activity and a competitive sport, as well as for the deployment of military personnel Airborne forces and occasionally forest firefighters.

A drop zone operator at a sky diving airport operates one or more aircraft that takes groups of skydivers up for a fee. An individual jumper can go up in a light aircraft such as a Cessna C-172 or C-182. In busier drop zones (DZ) larger aircraft may be used such as the Cessna Caravan C208, De Havilland Twin Otter DHC6 or Short Skyvan.

A typical jump involves individuals exiting an aircraft (usually an airplane, but sometimes a helicopter or even the gondola of a balloon), at anywhere from 1,000 to 4,000 meters (3,000 to 13,000 feet) altitude. If jumping from a low altitude, the parachute is deployed immediately, however, at higher altitudes, the skydiver may free-fall for a short period of time (about a minute)[1] before activating a parachute to slow the landing down to safe speeds (about 5 to 7 minutes).

When the parachute opens (usually the parachute will be fully inflated by 800 meters or 2,600 feet) the jumper can control the direction and speed with toggles on the end of steering lines attached to the trailing edge of the parachute, and can aim for the landing site and come to a relatively gentle stop. All modern sport parachutes are self-inflating "ram-air" wings that provide control of speed and direction similar to the related paragliders. Purists in either sport would note that paragliders have much greater lift and range, but that parachutes are designed to absorb the stresses of deployment at terminal velocity.

By manipulating the shape of the body in freefall, a skydiver can generate turns, forward motion, backwards motion, and even lift.

When leaving an aircraft, for a few seconds a skydiver continues to travel forward as well as down, due to the momentum created by the plane's speed (known as "forward throw"). The perception of a change from horizontal to vertical flight is known as the "relative wind", or informally as "being on the hill". In freefall, skydivers generally do not experience a "falling" sensation because the resistance of the air to their body at speeds above about 50 mph (80 km/h) provides some feeling of weight and direction. At normal exit speeds for aircraft (approx 90 mph (140 km/h)) there is little feeling of falling just after exit, but jumping from a balloon or helicopter can create this sensation. Skydivers reach terminal velocity (around 120 mph (190 km/h) for belly to Earth orientations, 150-200 mph (240–320 km/h) for head down orientations) and are no longer accelerating towards the ground. At this point the sensation is as of a forceful wind.

Many people make their first jump with an experienced and trained instructor – this type of skydive may be in the form of a tandem skydive. During the tandem jump the instructor is responsible for emergency procedures in the unlikely event that they will be needed, therefore freeing the student to concentrate on learning to skydive. Other training methods include static line, IAD (Instructor Assisted Deployment), and AFF (Accelerated Free fall) also known as Progressive Free-Fall (PFF) in Canada.

Bungee jumping (also spelled "Bungy" jumping)is an activity that involves jumping from a tall structure while connected to a large elastic cord. The tall structure is usually a fixed object, such as a building, bridge or crane; but it is also possible to jump from a movable object, such as a hot-air-balloon or helicopter, that has the ability to hover above the ground. The thrill comes as much from the free-falling as from the rebounds.

When the person jumps, the cord stretches and the jumper flies upwards again as the cord snaps back, and continues to oscillate up and down until all the energy is dissipated.

Safety and possible injury

Bungee jumping injuries may be divided into those that occur secondary to equipment mishap or tragic accident, and those that occur regardless of safety measures. In the first instance, injury can happen if the safety harness fails, the cord elasticity is miscalculated, or the cord is not properly connected to the jump platform. In 1986 Michael Lush died of multiple injuries after bungee jumping for a stunt on a BBC television programme[24] and in 1997, Laura Patterson, one of a 16-member professional bungee jumping team, died of massive cranial trauma when she jumped from the top level of the Louisiana Superdome and collided head-first into the concrete-based playing field. She was practicing for an exhibition intended to be performed during the halftime show of Super Bowl XXXI

Injuries that occur despite safety measures generally relate to the abrupt rise in upper body intravascular pressure during bungee cord recoil. Eyesight damage is the most frequently reported complication.Impaired eyesight secondary to retinal haemorrhage may be transient or take several weeks to resolve In one case, a 26 year old woman's eyesight was still impaired after 7 months Whiplash injuries may occur as the jumper is jolted on the bungee cord and in at least one case, this has led to quadriplegia secondary to a broken neck. Very serious injury can also occur if the jumper's neck or body gets entangled in the cord.[32] More recently, carotid artery dissection leading to a type of stroke after bungee jumping has also been described.All of these injuries have occurred in fit and healthy people in their twenties and thirties. Bungee jumping has also been shown to increase stress and decrease immune function
